Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim Mc Donnell has announced the promotion of Josh Thai to Captain, and appointed him to lead the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station effective immediately, where has been Acting Captain since June 2016.

The new captain responded with sincere appreciation to the news of his promotion. “Being promoted to the rank of Captain itself is awesome, and I am grateful, but to be promoted and be the Captain and the Chief of Police for the communities at the Malibu/Lost Hills Station is like icing on the cake," said Captain Thai. "It is truly an honor and a dream. I have worked at this station for several years as a sergeant and lieutenant and have a great deal of respect for the communities. I love it here. This is home to me.”

“Josh Thai is an excellent choice for Captain of the Malibu/Lost Hills Station,” stated Malibu Mayor Lou La Monte. "He has been doing an outstanding job as Acting Captain, and he has proven that he has the exact combination of ability, integrity and commitment that is so important for that position. I look forward to continuing and expanding our relationship.”

Captain Thai joined the Sheriff’s Department in July 1993, and previously served at the Malibu/Lost Hills Station as Field Sergeant and Watch Commander from 2005 to 2008, as Watch Commander from 2011 to 2013, and as Operations Lieutenant for the North Patrol Division beginning February 2016.

Lieutenant Jim Royal, Malibu’s Sheriff Liaison, praised his new Captain and indicated his support of the appointment, along with that of his fellow officers. “Captain Josh Thai is an outstanding choice to lead Malibu/Lost Hills Station forward,” said Royal. “He is community-oriented in his philosophy, and he is truly dedicated to public safety. Captain Thai is well-liked and respected by those under his new command, and we all look forward to a positive and productive environment as we continue to serve our local communities.”

Captain Thai has received numerous professional awards and accolades for his service, including the Exemplary Service Award from the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, the Distinguished Service Award and the Esprit de Corps Award from the U.S. Air Force, and the Outstanding Community Service Award from the Law Enforcement Association of Asian Pacific.
