Malibu has a vast network of both public and private roads and streets that wind through residential and commercial areas, as well as canyon roads and highways that connect Malibu with neighboring communities.
The City's Annual Street Maintenance Project, part of a five-year Pavement Management Plan (PMP), provides for scheduled work to improve and maintain the quality of the roadway, ensuring that the City's local road network continues to meet the current and future needs of the community.
While most streets are regulated and maintained by the City of Malibu, its "Main Street" is a 21-mile stretch of Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), which is owned, maintained, and regulated by the State of California's Department of Transportation (Caltrans). City staff work in close cooperation with Caltrans to ensure and enhance safety along PCH for motorists, cyclists, pedestrians, and those using public transportation.
Private roads are maintained by property owner organizations for that area.
