The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD) is proposing a project to combine elementary school students from Juan Cabrillo Elementary School (Cabrillo) onto the Point Dume Marine Science School (Point Dume) campus; and transferring middle school students from Malibu Middle and High School to the Cabrillo campus. No physical improvements would be made at either the Malibu Middle and High School or the Cabrillo campuses. All proposed physical improvements would be built at the Point Dume campus, which is approximately 0.5 miles south of Pacific Coast Highway at the southwest corner of the intersection of Fernhill Dr and Grayfox St.
On October 18, 2018, the City of Malibu submitted a comment letter on the Draft Mitigated Negative Declaration for the Malibu Schools Alignment Project regarding the environmental impacts of the project.
Project Approval Process
The City’s Planning Commission will hold a public hearing regarding SMMUSD’s application for a coastal development permit for the project at a Special meeting on April 29, 2019. View the agenda and staff report in the Agenda Center.
