SMMUSD Malibu High School Building Design Community Meeting

Thursday, October 8, 2020

Students, parents, and community members are invited to receive an update and provide input on the design process for the new Malibu High School building, which will be located on the site of the former Juan Cabrillo Elementary School.

The meeting will feature a presentation followed by audience questions and feedback. District officials and representatives from NAC and Konig Eisenberg, the architecture firms on the project, will speak.

Project Details
The new high school building will include well-lit classrooms, a state-of-the-art kitchen and café, outdoor learning areas and pitch spaces connected by common areas designed to add to the collaborative learning environment. The building will also include high school administration offices.
The new building will be funded by bonds from Measure M, passed by Malibu voters in 2018. It is the first phase of a campus plan approved by the SMMUSD Board of Education in 2019. More information about the campus plan can be found on the District website.:
A new middle school building on the campus opened in 2019, featuring 12 classrooms, three sets of restrooms, an elevator, stairs and associated improvements. The classrooms include LED lighting, heating and air conditioning, floor-to-ceiling windows, 21st-century learning technology and new easy-to-move flexible furniture to allow for many classroom set-ups.
A combined administration, library and science lab/classroom building is under construction and scheduled to be ready in January 2021. Those projects are funded by Measures BB and ES.
