Malibu City Hall Will Host an 11-Day Vote Center Starting October 25 for the 2025 California Statewide Special Election
The City of Malibu will host an 11-day Vote Center at Malibu City Hall starting October 25 for the upcoming California Statewide Special Election on Tuesday, November 4.
Ballots Sent by Mail to All Registered Voters in California
The Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder’s office started mailing vote-by-mail ballots to all active registered voters on October 6, 2025. Ballots submitted by mail must be postmarked by Election Day, November 4, and received by the LA County Elections Office no later than November 12. In-Person Voting (Vote Centers)
Early in-person voting can be done at any Regional Vote Center in LA County. The 11-day Vote Centers are open Saturday, October 25 through Election Day, Tuesday, November 4. Four-day Vote Centers are open November 1 through Election Day November 4. Voters may register to vote and get ballots in-person at Vote Centers up to and including on Election Day.

Vote by Mail Drop Boxes
Filled-in ballots may be submitted 24/7 at any secure Drop Box in LA County. A Drop Box is available at the Malibu Library, 23519 Civic Center Way, Malibu. The full list of Drop Boxes in LA County is available at: https://locator.lavote.gov/locations/vbm/?id=4337&culture=en.
Voter Registration Deadline
Voters complete a conditional voter registration application and vote in-person at any Vote Center in LA County, including at City Hall. GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION
The City’s General Municipal Elections are consolidated elections with Los Angeles County, which are conducted on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of even-numbered years. This election date was adopted by the Malibu City Council on May 11, 2015, and approved by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on September 29, 2015.
RECENT Election
The City of Malibu's most recent General Municipal Election was held on November 5, 2024. Three City Council seats were on the ballot.

NOVEMBER 3, 2026 ELECTION CANDIDATES
The next General Municipal Election will be held for two seats.
To run for election in the City of Malibu you must be:
- A United States Citizen
- 18 years old on or before election day
- Registered to vote in the City of Malibu at the time the nomination paper is issued (you can verify your voter registration online with the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder's Office)
Before any candidate raises or spends any money in connection with their campaign, they must first fill out and sign the Declaration of Intent to Solicit and Receive Contributions Form and the Fair Political Practices Commission Form 501 and file them with the City Clerk.

The Fair Political Practices Commission requires reports from committees, candidates, and elected officials at various times of the year. Campaign Disclosure Filings are completed semi-annually, and during an election year (even years for the City of Malibu) two additional pre-election statements are required.

election worker Information
Election workers are essential components of the election process.
To serve as an election worker in Los Angeles County, you must be:
- 18 years of age or older (unless participating in the Student Pollworker Program)
- A resident of California
- A United States citizen registered to vote or a legal permanent resident (green card holder)

Student election Worker Program
The Los Angeles County Student Election Worker Program provides an opportunity for students to participate in the democratic process by serving during an election.
State law allows United States citizen or legal permanent resident (green card holder) high school students, age 16 or older, with a 2.5-grade point average or higher, and teacher and parental consent to serve during an election.
