Live Poetry Performers and TEDx Speaker to Showcase the Power of Poetic Expression at Next Malibu Library Speaker Series

(Malibu, CA) – The Malibu Library Speaker Series continues on March 25, featuring Diane Luby Lane, Founder and Executive Director of Get Lit-Words Ignite, and the Get Lit Players, an award-winning teen poetry troupe performing at the Malibu Civic Theater.

Diane founded Get Lit-Words Ignite in 2006 and has grown it into Southern California’s leading non-profit presenter of literary performance, education and teen poetry programs. Through her organization, Lane has created an educational curriculum that has been adopted by 45 Los Angeles County high schools that participate in Lane’s annual “CLASSIC SLAM” event, one of the largest teen poetry festivals in the nation. Diane has also been a TEDX speaker and has served as a member of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s select Poet Laureate Committee.

The Get Lit Players have received widespread recognition for their social activism, poetic talent and performances throughout the nation. Since 2006, the program has worked to reach out to at-risk teens, reduce dropout rates and increase literacy among youth in Los Angeles. The Get Lit Players perform for tens of thousands of teens each year and are gearing up for a dynamic performance in Malibu.

For a preview of their incredible talent, watch their appearance on Queen Latifah's TV show, which has been viewed more than 5.6 million times - http://tiny.cc/GetLitPlayers.

The 2015 Malibu Library Speaker Series is a joint project of the Los Angeles County Public Library, Malibu Branch, and the City of Malibu featuring notable figures discussing their unique experiences, insights and inspirations. Speakers are selected from a wide range of fields and topics that will appeal to a broad section of the community, touching on the entertainment industry, literature, science, motivation, arts, education, sports, travel, food, and the environment.

The event takes places on Wednesday, March 25 at 7:00 PM at Malibu City Hall, located at 23825 Stuart Ranch Road, and features a Q&A with the speakers and free refreshments. Admission is free but reservations are required by calling 310-456-6438 or emailing Karol Sarkisyan, Management Fellow, at ksarkisyan@library.lacounty.gov.
