Cannabis Expert & Author Michael Backes to Discuss the Science Behind Medical Marijuana at Malibu Library Speaker Series
(Malibu, CA) – The 2015 season of the Malibu Library Speaker Series continues with an enlightening discussion with Michael Backes, one of the world’s foremost experts on medical marijuana, on Wednesday, July 15 at 7:00 PM at Malibu City Hall’s Civic Theater.
Backes will be signing his new critically acclaimed book "Cannabis Pharmacy: The Practical Guide to Medical Marijuana" and Malibu Bank of Books will have copies for sale at the event.
In “Cannabis Pharmacy,” Backes offers an evidence-based guide on the applications of medical marijuana, the ailments and diseases it can treat, and a guide for all the different medical marijuana strains. In addition, Backes will offer a timely discussion on the legal status of medical marijuana and its policy ramifications throughout the United States.
Backes is the head of research and development for a Southern California-based consultancy that specializes in cannabis science and policy issues. His approach is based on the latest research on medical cannabis patients by healthcare practitioners.
Backes founded Cornerstone Research Collective, the first science-based medical cannabis collective in California. He is also active with Project CBD, a non-profit educational service dedicated to promoting research into the medical uses of cannabidiol (a non-psychoactive component in marijuana) and the International Association for Cannabinoid Medicines.

The 2015 Malibu Library Speaker Series is a program of the County of Los Angeles Public Library, Malibu Branch, and the City of Malibu featuring experts in a wide range of subjects, such as the entertainment industry, literature, science, motivation, the arts, education, sports, travel, food, and the environment. The events are free and open to the public.
Past notable speakers in the Speaker Series include prolific comedy writer and director Tom Shadyac; author of best-selling novel "Eat, Pray, Love" Elizabeth Gilbert; Mayor of Sacramento and former NBA star Kevin Johnson; and performance painter David Garibaldi.
