Malibu City Council Offers City Manager Position to Assistant City Manager Reva Feldman

(MALIBU, CA) – During the Malibu City Council meeting on Monday, April 11, it was announced that current Assistant City Manager Reva Feldman had been offered the position of City Manager to replace outgoing City Manager Jim Thorsen when he retires on May 2, 2016.

The City Council voted unanimously during closed session on April 11 to offer Feldman the position, out of a field of strong candidates following a nationwide search, City Attorney Christi Hogin announced.

“Over the last 11 years serving the City, Reva has shown that she has the leadership skills, knowledge, strength, experience, and dedication to the community that Malibu deserves,” said Mayor Laura Rosenthal. “The Council looks forward to a seamless transition as Jim Thorsen retires and Reva takes the reins.”

Feldman will assume the role of City Manager on May 3, the day after Thorsen’s retirement. Thorsen announced in early February that he would retire exactly 10 years from the date he began his tenure as City Manager.

Since 2010, Feldman has served as Assistant City Manager, overseeing development and oversight of the City’s $30 million budget.

During her tenure, Feldman has assisted in the growth of General Fund reserves from $7 million to $20 million; coordinated $50 million in debt issuance and helped establish the City’s AA+/AAA bond rating; developed public/private partnerships; overseen multiple nationally-recognized capital improvement projects including the acquisition and remodeling of Malibu’s first City Hall building and a major renovation of the Malibu Library; overseen all HR functions; increased the City’s online, broadcast and social media communications including the launch of new website; and assisted with emergency operations and response including establishing an Emergency Operations Center.
