This project will improve the horizontal and vertical sight distance, and create additional space for motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit to travel along Civic Center Way between Malibu Cyn Rd and Webb Way. The project limits are along Civic Center Way between Malibu Cyn Rd and Webb Way, a distance of approximately 0.7 miles; and along Webb Way between Civic Center Way and Pacific Coast Hwy (PCH), a distance of approximately 400 feet. The project consists of pavement rehab, pavement reconstruction, removal and installation of sidewalk, curb, gutter, curb ramps, and utilities, installation of retaining walls, signing, striping, and new landscaping.
On August 10, 2020, the City Council awarded a construction contract to GMZ Engineering, Inc. Work on the project is expected to begin August 24, 2020 with work hours of Monday though Friday 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM including some Saturdays. Starting on September 21, 2020 to February 2021 (weather permitting), a portion of Civic Center Way will be closed to traffic while the contractor performs the street improvements. On or aboutthe first week ofFebruary Phase 1 will be opened to local residential traffic only and Phase 2 of the project will be closed. The attached map identifies the Phase 1 and 2 closure limits. The Phase 2 closure is expected to be completed near the end of February. However, the contractor will implement temporary access for emergency vehicles and will not work during Red Flag Warnings. In the case of an emergency, emergency vehicles will be able to utilize the temporary access.
The project is funded by Measure R Highway Operational improvements funds.
