[ARCHIVED] Give Your Input on the City’s PCH Speed Safety Program Use Policy and Impact Report Through July 18

SPEED CAMERA PUBLIC REVIEW PERIOD

Give Your Input on the City’s PCH Speed Safety Program Use Policy and Impact Report Through July 18, 2025

Community members are encouraged to review the draft Use Policy and Impact Report of the City of Malibu’s Speed Safety Program, which will bring automated speed citation cameras to enhance safety along Pacific Coast Highway (PCH).

“The success of the Speed Safety Program depends on our community’s support,” said Mayor Marianne Riggins. “This is about creating a culture of safety on PCH that protects pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. We’re sending a strong signal that speeding and reckless driving will not be tolerated in Malibu.”

Once the Draft Use Policy and Impact Report are adopted by the City Council, the City can proceed with purchasing and installing the system, which will include up to five automated speed citation cameras as well as speed feedback signs.

Speed safety camera systems implemented in U.S. cities have been shown to reduce speeding, traffic collisions, and traffic injuries and fatalities.

The Speed Safety Program was made possible by legislation by Senator Ben Allen, which was signed into law in September 2024, just one year after four Pepperdine University students were tragically killed by a speeding motorist while standing along PCH.

The program reflects the City’s multi-faceted approach to addressing road safety: pursuing policy and legislative solutions; the continuing partnership on enforcement with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) and California Highway Patrol (CHP); and outreach and education.
