The City of Malibu and LA County Library are proud to welcome Dr. Karen G. Lloyd as the next featured guest in the 2025 Malibu Library Speaker Series. The free event takes place on Wednesday, September 3, at 7:00 PM at the Malibu Library and will include a Q&A.
Dr. Karen G. Lloyd is the Wrigley Chair in Environmental Studies, Professor of Earth Sciences, and Professor of Marine and Environmental Biology at the University of Southern California. She is internationally recognized for discovering new and unusual forms of microbial life deep within Earth’s crust. Her groundbreaking work has taken her from the deep sea to mud volcanoes, subseafloor sediments, methane seeps, terrestrial volcanoes, hot springs, serpentinizing springs, Arctic fjords, and ancient permafrost around the world.
Her research has been published in leading journals such as “Nature” and “Science.” She has delivered two TED Talks and is the author of “Intraterrestrials: Discovering the Strangest Life on Earth.”
