Malibu Residents Invited to a Virtual Community Workshop on November 13 to Learn About and Give Feedback on Cross Creek Tree Replacement Project

Community members are invited to a virtual meeting on Thursday, November 13, 6:30 to 7:30 PM, to learn about and give feedback on a project to remove two ailing, non-native trees and replace them with native trees for public safety.

Background information, the meeting Zoom link, and online feedback form are available on the project webpage: MalibuCity.org/CrossCreekTrees (opens in a new tab).

The Cross Creek Tree Replacement Project will replace two tall Norfolk Island Pine Trees located at 3900 Cross Creek Road in the Civic Center area in early 2026 under the guidance of a Certified Arborist and a Certified Wildlife Biologist. Over the past several years, the City has assessed and documented the health of the trees, and a Certified Arborist has recommended removal due to their declining health and the associated public safety risks.

The trees overhang a heavily trafficked sidewalk located in a busy commercial district with dozens of shops, attracting thousands of visitors each year. The City of Malibu's top priority is to ensure the area is safe for pedestrians, vehicles, and wildlife.

Project Purpose
• Reduce Risk to pedestrians, vehicles, and wildlife
• Replant the area with native trees
• Improve additional future nesting for cormorants and other native birds in Legacy Park
