Flash Flood WATCH thru Sat 8PM. HEAVIER THAN Expected RAIN 11/13 - 11/16. Evacuation Warnings for Franklin/Palisades Burn Areas 11/13, 6PM - 11/16, 11AM. PCH & ROADS OPEN, MINOR FLOODING.

SATURDAY, 11/15, 5:30 PM - NWS issued a Flood Watch for LA County, including Malibu, through 8PM, Saturday, 11/15. Minor road flooding. PCH & roads open. Proceed with caution on all roads. Never drive through flood/flowing waters. Never approach downed power lines: stay back, warn others, call 911.

SATURDAY, 11/15, 12PM - NWS issued a Flash Flood Warning for Malibu and surrounding area, extended through Saturday, 11/15, 2PM.

NOTE that sandbags are available at Zuma Beach main entrance, not maintenance yard.

The National Weather Service projects rain on Thursday, Nov. 13 through Sunday, Nov. 16, heaviest Saturday. Rain totals of 2-4 in or more. Chance of thunderstorms.

Evacuation Warnings are in effect Thurs, Nov. 13, 6PM through Sun, 11/16, 11AM for Franklin and Palisades burn areas (Zones MAL-C111 & MAL-C112, from City limit at Topanga Beach Dr to PCH at the western end of Malibu Rd). People with disabilities, those with access and functional needs, and horse owners, who need more time to evacuate, should consider leaving early.

Be prepared for mudslides, debris flows, rocks, & water in all recent burn areas, especially in canyons. 1/2 inch per hour can trigger debris flows.

Be prepared for potential power & traffic signal outages. Come to a complete stop at any malfunctioning signal under CA law. Watch for workers & work vehicles.

The City is activating its Storm Response Plan, coordinating with LA County Office of Emergency Management, Sheriff’s & Fire Depts. The City's Public Works Dept will be patrolling City roads, canyons & drainage, & pre-placing heavy equipment & K-rails. The City is prepared to deploy backup generators to keep traffic signals operating.

SANDBAGS

  • All LA County Fire Stations have sandbags, some have sand. Check the sandbag locator website: dpw.lacounty.gov/dsg/sandbags/
  • Camp 13, 1252 Encinal Cyn Rd – sand & bags
  • Fire Station #70, 3970 Carbon Cyn Rd – sand & bags
  • Zuma Beach main entrance, Pacific Coast Hwy – sand & bags
  • Malibu Library, 23519 Civic Center Way – filled sandbags during storm season through Apr 15. Staff will help load your vehicle 9AM–4PM before and during forecasted storms. Self-service on other days.
  • Plastic sandbags are prohibited in Malibu – burlap/jute are allowed & are available at Malibu Library.
  • Do NOT remove sand from the beach – prohibited under County law and damages the coastal ecosystem.
