Flood Watch is in effect. A Debris & Mudflow Forecast Alert will be in effect Wednesday, December 31 at 11:00 AM through Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 6:00 PM for vulnerable areas of Malibu. Isolated debris and mudflows are possible, particularly near canyons and burn areas, with potential road flooding or blockages.
Rain and gusty winds expected in Malibu Wed 12/30/2025 through Sat 1/3/2026, saturated ground raises the risk of flooding, debris flows, downed trees, rockslides, hazardous seas, and travel disruptions. Possible thunderstorms and lightning. More storms possible next week.
Hazardous Beach Conditions: Storms create dangerous beach and ocean water conditions, with heavy surf, dangerous debris in the water, beach erosion, and dangerous rip currents. Avoid the beaches, and do not stand on rocks and jetties. LA County Department of Public Health advises against coming in contact with ocean water within 72 hours of significant rain, especially near flowing storm drains, rivers, and creeks. Take Action: Be prepared for mudslides, debris flows, rocks, and water on roads, especially in canyons and recent burn areas. Rain rates as low as 0.50 inches per hour can trigger debris flows. Be prepared for power and traffic signal outages. Under California law, come to a complete stop at any malfunctioning traffic signal. Watch for crews and work vehicles. Check on vulnerable neighbors.
City Public Works crews will patrol roads, clear drainage, pre-place heavy equipment and K-rails, and deploy backup generators if needed.

- Do not remove sand from beaches - it is prohibited under County law, and is harmful to the beach ecosystem.
