WILDFIRE SEASON PREPAREDNESS - Staying Informed During a WILDFIRE, EARTHQUAKE OR OTHER Disaster Can Save Your Life
During wildfires, earthquakes, severe winter storms, or other disasters, Malibu may experience widespread, long-lasting power, landline phone, cellphone, and internet service outages. It is critical for life safety to be able to access emergency information such as evacuation orders and routes, assistance resources, shelter locations, damaged infrastructure and more. Here are some options for community members to access crucial information during a wildfire or other emergency.
The City is mailing postcards with this information to all Malibu addresses, so watch for it in the mail and keep it handy. You can also print out the postcard at home.

Use battery, solar, hand crank or car radios, which will operate during power outages: 99.1 FM KBUU and 97.1 FM KNX and 1070 AM KNX.
- Monitor weather conditions
During peak wildfire fire season in fall, everyone in Malibu should be monitoring the news and NWS weather forecasts for hazardous fire weather conditions at https://www.weather.gov/lox. When Red Flag conditions are forecast (high temperature, very low humidity, strong, sustaining winds – Santa Anas), get your emergency supplies and plans ready.
- Watch for City Emergency Information Stations:
During a wildfire, earthquake or other emergency when there are widespread power or communications outages, the City may set up Emergency information stations at strategic locations throughout the City, staffed by Malibu CERT Team, with radio communications and solar power, so they can get and distribute information from the City during a communications blackout.
- Get the PulsePoint mobile app
The PulsePoint app shows LA County Fire Dept. dispatches for fires or other emergencies, and can be set to give you alerts for new incidents.
