[ARCHIVED] Evacuation Orders Lifted for Woolsey Fire Burn Area in Malibu

Evacuations Lifted

UPDATE - (Fri., Jan. 18, 1:30 PM) The evacuation orders for specific properties in the Woolsey Fire burn area were lifted Thurs. Jan. 17, but Unified Command will continue to monitor conditions.

Residents of the evacuated properties have been notified directly.

The potential for falling rocks, mud and debris flow still exists and residents should maintain good situational awareness when reentering the area. Residents returning to evacuated areas can expect to see continuous running water at Arizona crossings and light mud and rock coverage on portions of roadway. Many canyon and local roads will be slippery, and all motorists are urged to drive slowly and cautiously. Do not attempt to cross flooded areas and never enter moving water.

Road closures at Malibu Canyon Road and Topanga Canyon Road will remain in place until Los Angeles County Public Works and Caltrans can ensure the stability of the hillsides.

A high surf warning and a coastal flooding advisory remains in effect at least through tonight (Jan. 18). For Malibu weather forecasts, advisories, current conditions, visit the National Weather Service LA/Oxnard at https://www.weather.gov/lox. A water quality advisory remains in effect, and LA County Public Health Dept. recommends not coming in contact with ocean water near discharging creeks or drainpipes for 72 hours after a significant rain due to bacteria and other contaminants in storm runoff.

The public is reminded to stay vigilant on current weather conditions. For additional information go to Malibucity.org or call 310-456-2489.
