[ARCHIVED] Fire Safe Council Workshop to Help Residents Form Their Own Neighborhood Preparedness Groups

Fire Safe Council Workshop

The City of Malibu will offer a free Fire Safe Council Workshop as part of National Preparedness Month to help residents learn how to form their own grassroots, community-led organizations that mobilize residents to protect their homes, communities and environments from catastrophic wildfires. Many Fire Safe Councils have successfully implemented such projects as hazardous-fuel-reduction projects, Community Wildfire Protection Planning, and homeowner training. It will be taught by experienced Fire Safe Council members as well as L.A. County Fire Department Assistant Chief J. Lopez, who is also a California Fire Safe Council Board Member.

Community-wide readiness for wildfires and other disasters starts with individual residents learning how to prepare and take of themselves, their neighbors and their own neighborhoods.

Thursday, September 19

6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Malibu City Hall (23825 Stuart Ranch Road, Malibu CA 90265).

To RSVP, call Fire Safety Liaison Jerry Vandermeulen at 310-456-2489 ext. 387 or email JVandermeulen@MalibuCity.org. All of the activities are listed on the National Preparedness Month page. For more information about Fire Safe Councils, visit the website
