While we are all staying safe at home to slow the spread of the coronavirus, it is a perfect time to take the City of Malibu’s online survey for the citywide Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) that will identify and address Malibu’s local wildfire hazards. To take the survey, visit www.MalibuCity.org/WildfirePlanSurvey.
A CWPP provides a roadmap of action items to help the community prevent, mitigate, respond to, and recover from #wildfires. It may also help the City qualify for state and federal funding opportunities to ultimately implement the plan. The survey will ensure that the CWPP addresses Malibu’s unique local characteristics, needs and values, and will gather community input on how to become more resilient to wildfires.
The development of this CWPP is defined in Title I of the Healthy Forests Restoration Act (HFRA), passed by Congress in 2003 and is funded through a CAL FIRE Community Fire Prevention Grant. Through the CAL FIRE grant, the City has commissioned a consulting firm to help complete the Plan.
A CWPP handbook and other information are posted on the City’s Wildfire and Fire Safety web page at https://www.malibucity.org/952/Wildfire-Fire-Safety. For more information, contact Fire Safety Liaison Jerry Vandermeulen at 310-456-2489, ext. 387 or FireSafety@MalibuCity.org.
