Award-Winning Filmmaker and Malibu Native Rory Kennedy to Discuss Her Films, Life and Social Activism at Next Malibu Library Speaker Series Event
(Malibu, CA) – The 2015 season of the Malibu Library Speaker Series continues with a discussion with award-winning documentary filmmaker Rory Kennedy on Wednesday, September 23, at 7:00 PM at Malibu City Hall’s Civic Theater.
Kennedy, the youngest child of U.S. Senator Robert "Bobby" Kennedy and Ethel Kennedy, will discuss her films, her social advocacy, and her life as a Kennedy family member. In her more than 30 highly acclaimed films, including "Last Days in Vietnam" and "Ghosts of Abu Ghraib," Kennedy tackles such monumental topics as addiction, nuclear radiation, the treatment of prisoners of war, and the politics of a Mexican border-fence.
About the Series
The 2015 Malibu Library Speaker Series is a program of the County of Los Angeles Public Library, Malibu Branch, and the City of Malibu featuring experts in a wide range of subjects that will appeal to a broad section of the community. Speakers were selected to discuss such topics as the entertainment industry, literature, science, motivation, the arts, education, sports, travel, food, and the environment. The events are free and open to the public.
Past notable speakers in the Speaker Series include prolific comedy writer and director Tom Shadyac, author of best-selling novel "Eat, Pray, Love" Elizabeth Gilbert, Mayor of Sacramento and former NBA star Kevin Johnson, award-winning chef and best-selling author Jeff Henderson, and radical performance artist David Garibaldi.
The event is free and open to all, with free refreshments and a Q&A with the speaker following the presentation. Space is limited, so RSVPs are required.
