Malibu Mayor Pro Tem Lou La Monte Appointed to L.A. County Alcohol & Drug Commission
(MALIBU, CA) – Mayor Pro Tem Lou La Monte announced during the June 13 City Council meeting that he had been appointed by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to the County’s Commission on Alcohol and Other Drugs.
“I am honored to serve in this role, and I am committed to ensuring that patients and recovering substance abusers have the opportunity to receive quality, affordable and competent residential care in local communities while balancing the needs and interests of the residents of the neighborhoods where that community care is provided,” La Monte said.
The County Commission advises and makes recommendations to the County Board of Supervisors on alcohol and drug issues with the goal of reducing problems and the negative impact of substance use disorders on the quality of life for individuals and their families residing in Los Angeles County.
La Monte has been actively involved for several years in working on the issues that the Commission deals with on the Malibu City Council, with the League of California Cities, and as a Board Member and President of the California Contract Cities Association.
The Commission’s activities include reviewing federal, state and local legislation and making recommendations to the Board of Supervisors on appropriate ways to implement them in the County; recommending programs in the field of enforcement, medication, prevention and rehabilitation related to drug and alcohol abuse and addiction; organizing and assisting on conferences about abuse, addiction and treatment; working to educate the public about the nature of addiction; and encouraging public support for developing effective programs for prevention and treatment of substance abuse and addiction.
