Malibu Community Public Meeting on School Contamination Cancelled
August 18, 2014 (Malibu, CA) - The City announced today that the public meeting to discuss the environmental contamination at Malibu High School and Juan Cabrillo Elementary that was scheduled for Thursday, August 21, at Malibu City Hall, has been cancelled.
Councilmembers Laura Rosenthal and John Sibert cited uncertainties about the availability of all parties and agencies central to the issue of the contamination to fully participate at this time.
It was the Council’s intention to ensure that the community stakeholders would be offered a balanced, complete, and impartial informational forum, which would only be possible with the participation of all of the relevant parties and agencies.
“Despite everyone’s best efforts, we could not guarantee that this event would offer the full discussion and presentation of information that parents and other school community members need and was our goal,” said Councilmember Laura Rosenthal.
“We are committed to staying engaged with this important issue, and we will continue to seek appropriate ways to assist Malibu parents in obtaining the most accurate, up-to-date, impartial information they need to make their own decisions,” added Councilmember Sibert. “We are not going to give up.”
