In September 2006, the City completed the Winter Canyon Traffic Signal Project, part of the City's ongoing effort to promote traffic safety.
The new traffic signal, located at the intersection of Civic Center Way and Winter Canyon Road will reduce traffic speeds on Civic Center Way, and promote safe travel for parents and children going to and from Webster Elementary School and Our Lady of Malibu School, both of which are located on Winter Canyon Road
The project was the top priority recommendation of the Civic Center Way Task Force, which met in 2003-2004 to investigate solutions to pedestrian and safety issues from Malibu Canyon to the Civic Center.
The project was made possible in part by funding from Caltrans, Pepperdine University, and the City of Malibu.
(September 8, 2006) Mayor Kearsley and students from Webster Elementary School and Our Lady of Malibu School cut the ribbon on the new Winter Canyon Traffic Signal at a ceremony celebrating increased safety in the area near their schools.
